Who is responsible for paying for climate change impacts?
The first chapter of my book highlights research that attributes corporate responsibility for climate change. Experts now specify the role of Carbon Majors in the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, temperature rise, sea-level rise, and ocean acidification.
The top 21 fossil fuel companies must pay their fair share of $5,444 billion between 2025 and 2050 as climate debt, including $42.7 billion from Saudi Aramco, $18.4 billion from ExxonMobil, and $16.3 billion from Shell.
Fun fact: Even if these companies cough up that money, they will still be very very profitable for their shareholders!
Check out the full video about which companies are really responsible for climate impacts and how much they should pay. This new corporate attribution research can have important implications for new laws against climate change
