2025 Monsoon rains result in ₹24,000 crore (~$3 billion USD) damages

Monsoons are the lifeline of the Indian economy. But in 2025, the rains have also brought devastation with hundreds of lives lost and damages estimated to be more than ₹24,000 crore (~$3 billion USD).

According to a recent report by Yale Program on Climate Change Communication based on a national survey of Indians conducted in 12 languages, nearly two-thirds of people in India (64%) say it would take their household several months or more to recover from a severe flood

Alarmingly, 3 in 10 have moved or thought about moving because of such weather-related disasters. And while early-warning systems save lives, one-third of the respondents say they still receive no advance alerts.
